Anti-Piping Compounds & Feeding Compounds

Exo-14 / Exo-16 / Hi-APC-10 In case of pouring liquid metal in the mould, casting cools at a slower rate than the riser metal. While cooling, casting metal shrinks & the metal is feeded from the riser. But the riser metal is cooling at a faster rate. Hence to keep riser metal in the liquid form for feeding the casting, EXO-16 is used. The moment riser is filled with the metal, EXO-16 is spread over the riser surface. EXO-16 starts burning after few seconds. The activity count of 65 is adjusted so as to generate heat & keep riser metal hot at a latter stage. EXO-16 swells and provides a insulating layer to retain the heat generated & helps in feeding the casting. EXO-16 is recommended for all riser sizes above 3" and heavy castings.

Feeding Compounds

Feedexo-100 / Feedexo-80
In case of short pour there is every possibility of casting getting rejected due to shrinkage. In such cases feeding compounds are very useful in generating hot liquid metal to maintain the metal level in riser.

Binders - Modified CO2 Binders

Silexo-20E is a complex one shot sand additive binder for CO2 gassed process. It offers a combination of high strength and rapid gassing with good core storage properties and excellent post casting breakdown. Addition levels are 4.5-5% depending upon the application. To take full advantage of it's high reactivity an automatic gassing system incorporating flow controller, pressure regulator and gassing timer is advisable.

• Though transverse and tensile strength developed by Silexo-20E binders are slightly lower than some organic resin binders, Silexo proves more cost effective and overcomes problem of poor hot strength, veining, fining, gas pin holing and fume on casting which occurs with some resin binders.

Collapsible Agents


Conventionally sodium silicate binders are used for the manufacture of sand moulds and cores in a foundry.

The hot strength of these cores and moulds increases after casting and it becomes difficult to break-down cores out of intricate shapes of castings during fettling. This is due to the heat generated is unable to burn-out the binders used in the sand. To avoid mechanical stresses to get developed during fettling, sand used in cores and moulds are mixed with proprietary knock down agents such as Collapso-S during sand preparation.

Recommended additions for Collapso-S is 1.0 – 2.0% of sand weight, depending upon the extent of collapsibility required.
If used in combinations with modified CO2 binders such as Silexo-20E, post casting break-down equivalent to phenolic resin systems are obtained.
It should be added to the sand and pre-dispersed before adding the silicate binders. Collapso-S is in powder form.
Addition of these additives have no adverse effect on green strength if used in proper ratio. But post-casting breakdown is excellent.

Lustrous Carbon Additive

Sandaid-50 – is a lustrous carbon additive specially designed with selected volatile content for iron foundry green sand.

Exoaid–61 - is a sand additive to eliminate sand expansion defects such as scabs, buckles.
Exoaid-61 high burn-out temperature contents and results in lower concentration of dead clay. This improves permeability, reduces moisture requirements and gives better all-round sand properties over a longer life-cycle.

Addition % of Exoaid – 61 is 0.5 - 1.0 % in the facing sand.
If it is added in total sand system than 0.05 – 0.1% is sufficient.

Exoaid–81 – is an anti veining sand additive. It is free from contaminants such as oil, moisture, acid salts, slag and gangue minerals.

Pattern & Mould Box Stripping Agents

Wooden pattern & core boxes are frequently used for short run work. Epoxy or other resin pattern are common & metal equipments may be used for longer running work. The chemical binders used may be acid or alkaline or may contain organic solvents which can attack the pattern or paints.

Exostrip-200 is release agent applied to patterns and core boxes to improve the strip of mould or core. Care must be taken to avoid damage to the working surfaces of pattern and regular cleaning is advisable to prevent sand sticking. Exostrip is also suitable CO2 gassed process.

Exostrip-9 – Is a parting agent for Shell core / Hot-Box process.


Surfacote is coating suitable for green sand mould process, to make sand mould surface hard, to avoid sand erosion.
It can be applied with the help of spray system on the sand surface and allowed to dry. The sand surface becomes hard.

Surfacote-100 is to preserve & harden the face of sand moulds and cores to prevent erosion & metal penetration. Surfacote-100 can be used as a base coating prior to application of the refractory dressing. Suitable for green sand mould. Surfacote-100 gives,

  3. Cleaner casting surface
  4. Strengthening of sharp mould edges.
  5. Easy to use.
